Getting started with FTP

Getting started with FTP

This tutorial will show you how to get these precious torrent files from your seedbox to your pc, or send files to the seedbox so you can share it. For the sake of this tutorial I have used filezilla as FTP client because it’s free and easy to use. It also allows for multiple connections wich improves the download speed you get. However, there are a lot of other tools on the market. Just use what you like the most.

You can download the filezilla client from this website http://filezilla-project.org/. I assume that installing the application will not pose any problems for you. If it does, check the help files on the project webpage.

After installing and starting filezilla you will see the following screen:

The first time you make a connection you type the information provided by extremeseed in the red marked area and click quickconnect. After this you can use the small arrow next to the quickconnect button to select your seedbox so you don’t have to keep typing in your login information each time.

Now, the left part of the application is your own pc where you can browse to whatever location you want to store your torrent downloads. The right part will fill itself after you connect to the seedbox as this is the content of the server. You can only see your own files and not these of other users (if you have a shared server) just as they can’t see yours.

All you need to do to download a file is open the “Downloadz” folder and right click on the folder with your torrents. Click download and it will add itself to the list on the bottom part of the screen.

Improving the download speed with more connections

Now, there is one important thing to do to get the maximum download speed possible and that is to allow more then 2 connections at once. This is only useful if you have a quick download at your pc off course. Each connection will reach about 700-800 KB/s so with 10 connections you can reach around 7-8 MegaBytes (not bits) per second!

To do this, go to edit settings in the top menu, this will show the following screen:

As you probably guessed, change the maximum transfers to whatever number you want (don’t use more then you can normally use as each connection uses a little bandwidth for itself too). Note there is a maximum of 10 connections in filezilla but other programs might have higher limits.

This should be all you need to download your stuff. You can fuzz around with the advanced settings if you need to, or apply these basic things to any other FTP client. If you need help just make a forum post or get to MSN / live support for direct help from extremeseed support.
